Check out my blog. You’ll notice that I haven’t been writing in it nearly as frequently as I used to. Sure, Final Fantasy XI has played a significant role on that front, but it’s not the entire reason. And contrary to popular belief, it’s not as if I have nothing left to say, because I honestly do. But you know, each time I start to write about something that matters to me, I find all of my aspirations, cute observations, and petty concerns sadly trivial when I turn my attention to world events. Nick Hornby sums up the way I feel very nicely in High Fidelity when he writes,
It’s only just beginning to occur to me that it’s important to have something going on somewhere, at work or at home, otherwise you’re just clinging on. If I lived in Bosnia, then not having a girlfriend wouldn’t seem like the most important thing in the world, but here in Crouch End it does.
Frivolous things, it seems, like the woeful state of popular music, job-related gripes, or matters of the heart are only important to those people without real problems. I have a thing or two to write about every now and then, but it hardly seems like it matters sometimes when I hear about Haiti, or the Middle East, or most recently, the bombing in Spain. Goddamn, you know? When will the time ever be right to talk about the lighter side of life?
what about the global atrocities taking place that really hit home, like santabearcam.com not working?
at least i think it’s not working it could just be my computer which sucks!
