30 Minus 2 Days of Writing (2014)
Day 23: “There are things”
There are many things that need to be said. Unfortunately, this February has been an especially busy month for me, and I haven’t found much time to sit down and write it all out. I’ve also neglected to visit my fellow challenge participants’ blogs for over a week now, which makes me kind of a jerk.
My old car recently died for good, and so I had to focus my efforts on purchasing a new one. I’ve been busy at work with deadlines and reports — and on my off hours during the week, I’ve frankly been too damn tired to focus on blogging. This February was the month when my wife insisted that we clean out our cluttered garage, and so I’ve been lifting heaps of junk and cutting up countless cardboard boxes. Also, real life has just kind of gotten in the way, and I’ve been spending a lot of time this February catching up with old friends over dinners and beers.
So like I said, February has been a busy month for me. Tonight was supposed to be the night when I jumped back into the blogging challenge by writing a clever work of fiction, and by binging on a week’s worth of unread blog material from my fellow challenge participants. But alas, another obstacle stands in my way tonight. Or more precisely, this obstacle is sitting and sleeping in my way tonight.
That’s right, it’s everybody’s favorite self-absorbed orange cat, Momo. This evening, when I briefly stepped away from my computer, Momo swooped in and stole my chair while I was out of the room. The sad thing is, Momo does this so often, that I’ve learned to keep two desk chairs near my computer so that I can swap them at will whenever Momo occupies one of them. My wife refers to this system of mine as the “Decoy Chair Routine”.
So there he was tonight, resting in my comfortable executive chair. Unfazed, I rolled Momo away from my desk, and I swapped in my less comfortable back-up chair. Then I sat in front of my computer for twenty minutes attempting to write before I got up again to grab a drink from the kitchen. When I returned, this is what I saw.
That damn cat had swapped chairs on me seemingly out of spite. How can I be expected to blog under these kind of conditions?
Oh well. Screw it. Maybe I’ll try again tomorrow.

Dinners and beers with old friends? Is my invitation in the mail?
That’s a gorgeous cat. Our Sophie will take my chair like that and stay for hours. That’s when it’s good to have a laptop too.
Momo is a piece of work, Kevin. I love the photos of that marmalade kitty! My dog Zoe came in to my office yesterday and planted her 60 pounder rounder right on my desk chair. What are they thinking? Oh! That they are in charge, maybe? Hah! And they’re right, aren’t they?
Momo is awesome. Obnoxious and rude – the perfect cat!
What you DON’T KNOW is Momo has created posts every day this month… in your name… and has also commented….. CLEVER CLEVER KITTY!
