30 Minus 2 Days of Writing
Day 2: “Hold On”
________________________________________
We all reside within the universal link, the brotherhood of necessity, this life with its remarkable complexity and manufactured meanings. We wade through waves of the mundanely surreal, through so many declarations of certitude marked with the confidence of meaning found in misplaced authority. All we seek in this life is direction, to understand the might of ambiguity, the strength of suggestion, the grand certitude of maybe. Maybe one day we will fully understand. I have faith in the promise of maybe.
Cheesy
30 Minus 2 Days of Writing
Day 1: “Cheesy”
________________________________________
Don’t be cheesy. You can be earnest and full of good intentions, but please don’t ever let me catch you being cheesy. You’re so much better than that. The path of unbridled cheese leads you to the precipice of a treacherous cliff overlooking a chasm of disingenuous crap. In honor of today’s “Cheesy” writing prompt, let’s call this chasm “Gouda Gorge”. I live every day in constant fear of Gouda Gorge.
Making the Most of a Wednesday
The smell of gasoline, cigarette smoke, stagnant water, dirt, sweat, and old curdled paint — it all mingles with the sound of shouts, rapid-fire thuds on inflatable cushions of air, and people geeking out on tournaments, technique, and tech. This is Wednesday night paintball. I think I’m in love.
The Cough Syncope (Fainting While Coughing)
I don’t know whether you could call it a flu or a cold, but I’ve been dogged by some kind of an illness with a persistent cough for at least a month. The severity of my symptoms has improved and worsened over the weeks, and my cough has been the cause of two fainting episodes that scared the hell out of my poor fiancée, Diana. Based on what I’ve read online, I believe my fainting episodes could be defined as “cough syncopes”. That’s when you cough so much in consecutive sequence that you lose consciousness due to restricted blood flow to the brain.
Play it Again, KZ
For whatever reason, I find it helpful to listen to the same song on endless replay whenever I’m trying to write something. Tonight, I’ve been playing the hell out of “The Concept” by Teenage Fanclub. I feel kind of like Charlize Theron’s character in that movie, Young Adult. Hopefully by the end of tonight, I’ll…
My Finest Moment of 2012
Just in case you needed a reminder: I’m kind of a sarcastic bastard. So long, 2012. It’s been real.
KZ’s Very Un-Merry List of Christmas Music Complaints
I’d like to think of myself as a happy guy, but I do have to admit that I can occasionally be something of a Grinch. I did once say in a previous blog entry, “Santa Claus can go F himself in the A“. He still can, by the way. So maybe I am a Grinch. But you ought to know that this Grinch’s small heart has grown three sizes after hearing a chorus of earnest Whos singing in unison to welcome the Holiday season. That’s right, kids, it’s Christmas time.
When KZ Proposed to Diana
For those of you who haven’t yet heard, Diana and I got engaged back in September. People have been asking me to tell them the story about how I popped the question, but there’s really not much to tell. It was a simple proposal. I took Diana to the local pub, pulled out my bat’leth,…
…It Figures, Not Much
“How’s work?” “What do you do for a living?” Those are the two most common questions I hear in social settings whenever people want to engage me in conversation. I guess that’s the only thing left for adults to talk about once the idealism of youth fades away, and all traces of hopes and dreams…
More Fun with the Mirror Universe
In my previous post, I introduced you to Mono and Mad Die, my cats’ evil dopplegangers in the Mirror Universe. Much to the chagrin of my typo-inclined girlfriend, Diana, the saga continues.
